Color and Hope in Prison
While purchasing my annual We'Moon Almanac, I also spring for a few copies for the Women in Prison Program. I love my own colorful, cheerful almanac, and it would be great if women in our prisons (way too many women) could enjoy We'Moon too. Back in the "Neolithic" I did a bit of volunteer work (just a touch) in the Cook County Jail. The atmosphere was colorless and stifling, and I always breathed a big breath of relief upon leaving. Inserting some We'Moon almanacs in places like that would be a way to insert some color, breath, and hope into a harsh place. No. It wouldn't be a miracle. But it could be an act of kindness in an awfully--at times--unkind world.
