What is Astrology, How does it relate and differ from other sciences? What is the history of Astrology?
Astrology and quantum physics challenge the sciences. They both pose perplexing quandaries about how interactions between things can occur without apparent cause and effect, and about the vital role human attention plays in the emergence of phenomena into reality.
Astrology evolved with the recognition that living things respond consciously to the pulse of celestial rhythms. Many cultures gain perspective through using mythic correspondences between their changing life-experience on Earth and the predictable movements of the heavenly bodies. In uniting us symbolically with the cosmos, astrology allows us to view the content of our lives, within the context of our place in space. The language of astrology assists us in interpreting meaning from this larger frame of reference, and fulfills our need to belong to a celestial family, unbounded by terrestrial life. When we apply these intuitive correlations to our lives, we become connected in a participatory, co-creative role with the cosmos. Similarly, quantum physics demonstrates that the inclusion of the conscious observer affects the phenomena that emerge into material form. When we look to quantum theory for the way natural laws express themselves, we are led away from the familiarities of finite constructs, and arrive to find a unified creation with infinite possibilities. Quantum physics offers a language of energetics for the sub, sub underworld of physical form. The smallest, most discreet elements of matter are the wave and the particle. Like entangled primary playmates they weave in and out of existence, can occur in two places at once; they even become each other simultaneously. Experiments demonstrate that the consciousness of the observer, the eye of the beholder, influences the behavior of waves and particles - – —which exist only as potential at the sub-atomic level. Our expectations actually do create the reality. The dynamics of the quantum field describe an emergent, invisible world that through intention supports and becomes the visible one. This phenomenon provides a metaphysical background to the world from which our symbol-loving psyche can bring together rich expressions of reality. Our inner and outer realities are fundamentally not separate; each is a glimpse of a unified process of creation. Indeed, from our own proclivities we may re-enchant our world. The Planet Uranus rules both astrology and quantum physics. It symbolizes our awakening collective consciousness, and illuminates the mysterious interconnectivity and synergy in which we all participate. Currently in the Sign of Aries, Uranus offers us the opportunity to release the restraints of rationality and to experience ourselves as sentient patterns of energy. We are challenged to grow in new unpredictable ways, so that our evolutionary options are expanded. The renaissance of creativity during this Uranus transit offers us a prism for possibilities, and through the Sign of Aries they spring forth as facets of our own proud, sweet design.
In 2016 the Planet Uranus transits through 16°—24° of Aries. Look in your Birth chart for these degrees to discover your own best quantum leaps into orbits of greater dimensionality. What quandaries in your life can be constellated in novel ways?
We present to you the collection of essays written annually for We’Moon by vintage astrologer, Sandra Pastorius. Using her unique blend of the playful and the profound, Sandra highlights current planetary events with the We’Moon theme each year. She pays special attention to the roles the outer planets play in the unfolding Mythic Theater of Life. Each essay offers illuminations and inspirations from these heavenly “characters.”
Sandra Pastorius, aka Laughing Giraffe, (Ashland, OR) has been a practicing astrologer since 1979, and writing for We’Moon since 1990. As a Gemini she delights in blending the playful and the profound.
